Still “on the Hard”.

There’s not much to report this week, I’m still cleaning and sanding eight years of crap off the hull, it’s not a pretty job and I’m shocked and stunned that it is taking so long. Never again, this boat is coming out of the water at least every two or three years, hopefully the build up of crud will easily jet wash off if I can keep on top of it. I did have a long weekend off though, (problems with the tower of power that we are hooked up to), then a day of stress trying to suss out why the boat had power going into it but that was as far as it went, when the tower burnt out it took something of ours with it, (long story, I tried to write it down here but I was bored writing it, you’d have definitely fallen asleep reading it). Anyhoo, I should start filling and then painting this weekend, hopefully.

We went out to a bar (€2.60 for a half of beer France? Really?¿!) last Sunday night to watch the second half of the Eurocup final, what a strange experience, no one seems to watch the TV, it’s like instead of a designated driver they have a designated TV watcher who shouts Allez! Allez! when the French players get near to the goal. Other than that everyone is sitting and chatting and generally doing everything you do in a bar EXCEPT watching the TV on such an important night?¿! In the UK I have seen people become social pariahs because they needed to use the toilet and dared to get in the way of the TV (get the F— down in front!). In Spain there is a level of concentration toward the TV, it’s almost a group meditation with everyone focused on getting that ball into the back of the net, and bearing in mind that we were lucky enough to “be there” when Spain won the Eurocup and the World Cup, I’m inclined to think this works. Maybe that’s why France lost, disinterest?¿!

There have been a few “what the Hell have we done” moments in these last few weeks, none to do with the boat, (okay, maybe one or two) these have been mostly all to do with our location so far north, okay, I touched on this last week but I have to say, rain in July?¿! How does that work, we’ve been in Spain for so long that for us this is unheard of. We have a little gizmo in the bedroom (hush your dirty mind) that measures how much power we’re using, it’s very handy but it also shows the temperature, not so handy, especially this morning when it showed the temperature of 13.4ºC!!! This is a tiny room with two bodies and three cats, I haven’t seen a temperature below 18º for years. Did I mention that we are heading south at the earliest opportunity.

There is a summer long festival in St-Jean de Losne, loads of activities, mostly free which is cool. This Saturday we have the Fallen Stones, looking forward to that, and then at the end of August there is the French Floyd show, ooh yeah 🙂

I love comments, give it to me, I can take it.
